Your Direction

I directed a two-hour long variety show that premiered on Youtube Live as part of a promotional event for Netflix' feature film 

As part of my role, I directed host segments and skits with Jonathan Van Ness, live musical performances from Janelle Monáe and Galantis, and interviews with a number of the film's cast.

I also built and oversaw the run of show. I worked closely with the writers, producers and design team to develop and shoot original segments, find creative ways to integrate show footage and user generated content, and to design transitions that kept the piece as a whole entertaining and engaging for live, remote audiences on YouTube and TikTok.

I learned a lot from experiencing this event play out live, as the engagement in the chat came overwhelmingly from TikTok (and in regards to a talent who featured for only a few seconds of screen time in the show... and isn't even in the actual film...). 

It has since piqued my interest in the creative possibilities inherent in telling a story across numerous and non-linear timelines.

In the Spring of 2020, UGG® hosted a virtual, queer prom as part of a launch campaign for their latest gender-inclusive slides. 

The event was hosted by Tommy Dorfman, and featured other notable queer and gender fluid artists such as Shangela, FLETCHER, and ALOK.  It premiered on YouTube Live. 

I directed the talent within each segment and oversaw the creative direction of the piece as a whole — considering elements like art direction, graphics, transitions, pacing, and a live chat. 

I also designed and maintained the run of show using this 

 I built to help align the fully remote team, and ensure all elements were accounted for.

I oversaw the creative direction of the event, working with the client to consider thoughtful product placement throughout and pushing for visual cohesion in art direction across all segments despite the strictest limitations imposed by fully remote filming. I directed all content, including the live segments with the host, to ensure maximum consideration of interactivity with online participants.
